HEALING HOPE is a program created by life coach Melissa Mohr for AACDQ. This program aims to help those affected by the trauma of adoption.

What is adoption trauma?

Although adoption as such is not a trauma, people related to this action can go through traumatizing situations. People who suffer from this trauma and who are connected in some way to adoption refer to this as “adoption trauma.”

Does adoption trauma affect only adopted people?

No, parents who have lost a child to adoption, someone in foster care, anyone who is in any way related to an adoption case can suffer from this type of trauma.

How does HEALING HOPE help a person with “adoption trauma”?

This program helps through group coaching in adaptability.

What is adaptability?

Adaptability is a person’s ability to overcome situations that affect them.

How does HEALING HOPE work?

This program works through virtual group meetings by ZOOM. The program is divided into six sessions of approximately one hour per week.

Do I need to attend all the sessions?

You don’t need to attend every session. For the program to be effective we recommend that you attend all the sessions.

What happens if I miss any of the sessions?

The program is rotating, you will have the opportunity to register for the session you missed after it appears in the calendar found on the program page.

Do I have to buy any work materials?

No, you don’t have to buy any working materials. The working material will be delivered to you during the corresponding session.

Is there a cost to join the program?

No. AACDQ is a non-profit organization, and all its services are free of charge.

In which languages is this program offered?

Currently the program will be available in English. We are working on getting qualified people who can lead it in other languages. If you know someone who is qualified and wants to join our project, you can write to us at healing-hope@aacdq.org.

Does HEALING HOPE provide professional help?

HEALING HOPE recognizes the complexities of adoption and the traumas that affect the lives of people affected by adoption. This program in no way replaces therapy or individual counseling for participants. We cannot provide therapy to our participants; however, we can provide referrals based on need and requests.
